Honey Farms is a large company that sells honey to supermarkets. They are part of an organization that also owns Honeyburton and Honron, presumably two other companies that also sell honey.
After discovering that the honey bees make was being sold in supermarkets, Barry B. Benson followed a Honey Farms delivery truck back to the farm where he witnessed the collecting of honey from hundreds of boxes containing apartments where bees live. A picture of a queen bee, in reality a male bee in drag, was used to require the worker bees to stay since they would go wherever their queen went.
Further, Barry witnessed employees of the farm making comments making it clear they were aware bees were being exploited, saying, "They make the honey, we make the money", and greedily enjoying the work of harvesting honey. Incensed, Barry decided something must be done and filed papers to sue the honey industry.
During the trial of Benson v. the Honey Industry, Honey Farms was represented by Klauss Vanderhayden. It was described as a large company, part of a group of companies that also included Honeyburton and Honron. Barry grilled Mr. Vanderhayden over the term "beekeeper", noting there were no "bee-free-ers". During further questioning, Barry pointed out using a bear for a honey bottle was not suitable as bears attack and kill bees. To prove his point, Barry arranged for a bear to be brought into the courtroom and demonstrate their ferociousness.
Background information[]
Honeyburton and Honron are parodies of Halliburton and Enron respectively, two companies that have encountered major controversies. For the former, an explosion aboard the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling platform and its sinking two days later. For the latter, accounting fraud that lead to the bankruptcy of the company and the voluntary surrendering of their accounting firm's license to practice as Certified Public Accountants.
